The difference a single voice, change-maker, advocate, and leader can make in her own community

Sometimes the @Empower_Women Global Champions are directly championing change in their communities, while at other times, they serve as an important catalyst in empowering and enabling new leaders to emerge within their own communities, as 2015-2016 Global Champion, Karen Sneha Moawad highlights below. Here are eight powerful examples of the difference a single voice, advocate, change-maker and leader can make in her own community. 
1. Anupama, Byse,Karnataka:-

Anupamma, facilitator in the Byse, Karnataka program, has been instrumental in connecting populations separated by distance in the area. Here, she uses a tablet to discuss the importance of stopping the use of stimulants among the women.

2. Harjinder, Indpur village,Himachal Pradesh


In finding common ground between women from many walks of life, Harjinder from the Indpur village, from Himachal Pradesh toilet building programme, utilizes her power of compassion to settle disagreements and find agreed-upon goals.

3. Sunitha Srivasthav, Karanji Village, Chattisgarh

Sunitha Srivasthav, Karanji Village from Chattisgarh has spearheaded several life enrichment projects of her own, including rallies to end alcoholism in the local community. She spends many hours each day working and inspiring other women in the area.

4. Sakri Ben, Nani Borwai, Gujarat

Sakriben, of Nani Borwai village, Gujarat, has been a vibrant leader from the start, and enthusiastically is looking forward to becoming a mason after learning new skills in the area of sanitation and toilet building.. She is now the facilitator for the training in her village and is paving the way for other women to pursue education and a career outside the home.

5. Gunabati Poyam, Deurbal Village, Chattisgarh

Gunabati Poyam, Deurbal Village,  from Chattisgarh is a powerful example of the ripple effect that women empowerment brings. She believes firmly in explaining the importance of education and sanitation.

8. Urmila Behra, Guptapada Village, Odisha

“These women are just a few of the 5,000 women who are chosen for the change agent program. They will be the ones we tap to go door to door and to lead the sanitation awareness project. The training and support they will be getting will prepare them for the next step in the project, reaching out to women in their village to stop Open Defecation.” Karen Sneha Moawad
